Dr Aleksandra Borek-Dorosz at ICCVS: Raman Spectroscopy in Biomedicine

On 16th September we had the pleasure of hosting Dr Aleksandra Borek-Dorosz from the Department of Chemistry, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, who delivered an entitled: “Can a Cell Be Identified by Its Spectrum? Raman Spectroscopy in Biomedicine.”

Dr Borek-Dorosz currently leads the OPUS26 research project entitled “Raman4Cell2Cell: Uncovering the Reciprocal Interactions of Leukocytes and Endothelial Cells by (Stimulated) Raman Imaging”, which aims to study cell-to-cell communication mechanisms using label-free spectroscopic imaging techniques.

During the seminar, Dr Borek-Dorosz presented how Raman spectroscopy can be applied to characterize cellular phenotypes and investigate metabolic alterations associated with inflammation and disease.

Her research combines Raman imaging, advanced vibrational spectroscopy techniques, and chemometric data analysis to identify spectroscopic biomarkers of cellular function, as well as study metabolic pathways at the single-cell level.

We would like to thank Dr Aleksandra Borek-Dorosz, for sharing her expertise and insights.
