Prof. Natalia Marek-Trzonkowska Nominated in the Perspektywy Women in Tech Initiative 

ICCVS is proud to announce that Prof. Natalia Maria Marek-Trzonkowska, Director of the International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science, has been nominated in the Biotech for a Better World category within the Perspektywy Women in Tech initiative.

The nomination recognizes Prof. Marek-Trzonkowska’s outstanding scientific achievements and her contribution to the development of innovative biomedical therapies. Her key achievement is co-authoring the first-in-human therapy for type 1 diabetes using regulatory T cells (Tregs). Long-term observations conducted over 12 years demonstrated prevention of diabetic complications and preservation of residual insulin secretion in treated patients.

Her research activity also includes studies on cancer antigen signatures in vitro and in animal models, as well as identifying consistent features of lung cancer present both in primary tumors and their experimental models, which may serve as potential therapeutic targets in the future.

As Director of ICCVS, Prof. Marek-Trzonkowska plays an important role in shaping the Center’s international scientific strategy and coordinating major research and innovation initiatives currently implemented at ICCVS, including projects like:

  • Science for Welfare, Innovations and Forceful Therapies (SWIFT) funded by International Research Agenda programme (IRAP) of the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) financed by the European Funds for a Smart Economy 2021-2027 (FENG), Priority FENG.02 Innovation-friendly environment, Measure FENG.02.01 International Research Agendas
  • NSCLC Diagnostics – Algorithm (DiaNA) — funded by the Medical Research Agency under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (2024/ABM/03/KPO),

Through these activities, ICCVS continues to strengthen its position as an internationally connected research environment focused on immunotherapy, advanced diagnostics, and innovative therapies.

The nomination is also a recognition of ICCVS’s broader commitment to scientific excellence, international collaboration, and supporting research that addresses major global health challenges.
