CANVAS Workshop on Patent Writing and Commercialization successfully concluded

The CANVAS Workshop on Patent Writing & Intellectual Property Protection and the Commercialization Process successfully took place from 3rd to 5th February 2025 at the International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science (ICCVS), University of Gdańsk. The event was organized as part of the Enhancing Cancer Vaccine Science for New Therapy Pathways (CANVAS) project, funded by the Horizon Europe Programme.

The workshop provided researchers, scientists, and innovators with valuable insights into intellectual property protection, patent applications, and commercialization strategies for research.

The fully packed agenda highlighted a number of following topics:

Patent Writing & Intellectual Property Protection
Participants gained insights into patent procedures, prior art search, and strategies for patent applications and discussed the importance of collaboration between scientists and patent attorneys to streamline the patenting process.

Commercialization Process
Attendees explored the journey from lab to market, including the development of a commercialization strategy. Sessions covered funding, intellectual property acquisition, and business structuring for innovative research.

Advanced Commercialization Techniques
The workshop concluded with discussions on exit strategies, team management, and long-term sustainability. Case study provided participants with practical knowledge and actionable steps for successful commercialization.

The event was conducted in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person participation at ICCVS and online access for CANVAS partners via MS Teams.
Twenty-five participants, including researchers and research managers from ICCVS and the University of Rome Tor Vergata, an innovation broker from the Technology Transfer Centre of Gdańsk University, and representatives from Real Research, actively attended the workshop.

The CANVAS workshop was a success, fostering collaboration between researchers and industry while equipping participants with essential skills of scientific innovation and commercialization.
