PhD degree awarded to Georges Bedran

We are thrilled to report on the achievement of Georges Bedran, who has has been awarded his PhD degree. Georges’s remarkable journey concluded in the successful defense of his thesis, titled ‘Exploring alternative sources of tumor antigens using large-scale immunopeptidomics.’ The public defense event took place on the 14th of July 2023 at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdansk and the Medical University of Gdansk.

Georges’ research has significant implications in the field of cancer immunology, particularly in the context of tumor antigens. While early investigations into antigen presentation primarily relied on aggregating publicly available studies to query MHC-associated peptides, Georges’ research delves deeper into the profiling of antigens arising from the translation of non-coding regions and post-translational modifications (i.e., glycosylation). His work sheds light on these lesser-understood aspects of the immunopeptidome, marking a milestone in comprehending its complexity and paving the way for more extensive therapeutic research against cancer.

Georges conducted his research at the ICCVS, under the guidance of Prof. Ted Hupp and dr Javier Alfaro. His work was reviewed by a distinguished panel of experts, including Assistant Professor Michal Bassani-Sternberg from the Department of Oncology at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Lausanne, Professor Pierre Thibault from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the Department of Chemistry, University of Montreal, and dr hab. n. med. Karol Połom from the Department of Surgical Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine, Medical University of Gdańsk.

We extend our congratulations to Georges on this achievement!
